2007 Concours d’Elegance

The 44th annual Concours d'Elegance was held at Chinguacousy Park, Brampton, Ontario on Saturday, June 6th, 2007. Once again, the weather co-operated while seventy magnificent cars were on display.

Howard Payne and his team of 26 judges did a marvelous job completing their task under very trying circumstances. Cars started arriving shortly after 7:00 AM, with Jackie Jeffery and Brenda Barden directing the traffic to Mike and Mary Leiss for registration.

After that, cars were directed by Ron Slessor and Ted Jeffery to be photographed by Gabe Sabatini prior to being parked in their respective classes by Al Barden and Al Rowcliffe. This year, a new class was added – The Winners’ Circle.  This class incorporated previous “Best of Class” winners and proved to be very popular adding a new dimension to the event.   Once again, Rideau Lakes members, Sharlene and Terry Irish, parked their motor home and trailer on the grounds serving complimentary coffee, muffins and cookies throughout the day.  As well, their enclosed trailer was utilized by the judges and tabulation teams. By 9:00 AM, Ivan and Anne-Marie Elford set up the music and the Concours was officially underway.

Something new this year was the pre-judging check where senior judges got to look over the cars before the official judging got underway. George Gow was ever present on his trusty golf cart making sure that all site challenges were resolved.

At noon, Joan Gow and Yvonne Rice handed out delicious lunches to the judging team.  When the judging was complete several owners were invited to place their cars in the curling rink for display at the banquet. .Prior to the dinner we enjoyed a restoration hour in the air-conditioned lounge. At the appointed hour, George Gow said grace and the banquet was underway.

Following the dinner the chairman expressed thanks to the sponsors, committee members, attendees and others. The President of ACCCC, Terry Irish expressed some encouraging remarks and then it was time for our chief judge, Howard Payne, to present the awards for the various classes. Gabe’s photo presentation through power-point projection showed the winning cars as the owner came up for his/her trophy. This is always the highlight of the evening. Once again, well done!

Following the presentations, Ivan entertained with his ever popular tunes, great voice and able assistant.  It was a wonderful evening of song and dance, prizes (donated by Castrol), and trophy presentations. Overall, it was a very successful event. Hope to see YOU next year!
